ABOUT TOP HAIRSTYLIST LEN HANDELAND

Top hairstylist Len Handeland owned Utopia Salon in Union Square for 9 of his 20+ years in the hair industry. Len is now pleased to call two salons home, Frange Blue Salon in San Francisco and Cheveux Salon in Sonoma.

His training comes from an extensive 2+ year apprenticeship including both Di Pietro Todd Salon and the former DeKroon Salon & Spa in San Francisco, where he was able to learn his cutting and coloring skills. Len's advanced multi-year training with both Sassoon and Toni & Guy enabled him to master the marriage between precision cutting and artistic expression.

In addition, Len was the color educator at his former salon, specializing in color and highlighting. He uses the renown Wella color line, and is known for his "blonding technique." He was proud to be voted Best of CitySearch for color and highlights in 2006.

Len has provided services to a number of charities including "Help is on the Way". His work with non-profits has allowed him to deliver hair services for three years in a row to such celebrities as Luci Arnaz, daughter of the late Lucille Ball and Desi Arnaz, Jill Eikenberry from the 80’s hit show “L.A. Law”, Marylou Henner from the hit series “Taxi”, and Toni Tennille, recording artist and television personality from the 70’s.

Len has also volunteered at many charities including “Hope Cuts” where proceeds were donated to a number of charities including AIDS research, and breast cancer research. He has also provided in-kind donations to a number of Homeless organizations. In 2007, Len took part in 3-day Sierra Summit at Moscone Center for mercury testing which was featured on their web site as well as in the magazine "The Planet". Len’s former salon also hosted a breast cancer fund raising event reported on by 7x7 magazine.

When Len is not creating artistry behind the chair, he furthers his professionalism within the industry by taking advanced haircutting courses as well as color classes. Len has enjoyed traveling extensively, and his travels have taken him all over the world from Europe to Asia, and to the Middle East. Currently Len divides his time with San Francisco and Sonoma.
